With the highly anticipated wait for this year’s La Marzocco Crush the Rush event, a fast-paced espresso drinking making competition focused on fun, speed, efficiency and teamwork.
16 teams entered this year’s competition going head to head in teams of 3 to try and take out the sacred coffee championship title. Of the 16 teams, we had a line-up consisting of some big names including Toby’s Estate, Whitehorse, Single O to name a few.
8 teams were chosen to make it past the preliminaries and into the time trial final battle, where competitors were judged not only on speed but quality. The technical and visual judges criticked the espressos on cleanliness, microfoam quality and fill level.
Estate 88’s premium coffee served as the sponsor for the preliminary rounds with many of the contestants including Erik from La Marzocco commenting on how smooth, chocolaty and enjoyable it was as a blend.
A big congratulations goes out to ONA Coffee who took out the Crush The Rush Gold Medal and also a big thank you to Speciality Coffee Curators for organising and hosting the event.
